As a lot of our followers know, we bought an old gold and silver town in Nevada. Actually, it's a patented gold claim that was home to the town of Dun Glen/Chafey. Once we got most of the stuff moved north from Arizona, we were hoping to jump right into prospecting the best places to dig on our 99 acres.
It's been an eventful summer season with a large wildfire that came through Memorial Day Weekend. The fire came close enough to the camp that firefighters from the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service camped out at the gate in case the fire started down our side of the mountain. Thankfully the helicopters and airplanes with their water buckets and fire retardant were able to save the mine a half mile from camp.
Mid August brought us our first experience with a western flash flood. The Bureau of Land Management had done what they call 'remedial wildfire management practices' by cutting cedar and juniper trees. They stacked the tree trunks and burned the limbs. So much water came off the mountain it washed the trunks down into the wash causing a log jam. When the jam cut loose all that water and timber came down the mountain into camp burying tools and equipment in 2 to 3 feet of mud.
As we get the details of everyday living in place, we're going to be working to keep these pages updated, and get the Patreon page back up and running along with the YouTube channel.
